A law allowing some teachers and school staff to carry weapons has been approved by the Florida state legislature on Wednesday, although the project imposes restrictions on the possession of firearms.
The law will be passed on to Republican Gov. Rick Scott for approval and activation. Scott, however, has voiced opposition to Trump's proposal to arm teachers and does not know if he will approve or oppose the law.
The House of Representatives in Florida on Wednesday passed a law restricting the possession of firearms, but in return allows the arming of some teachers and staff in schools.
Florida's Senate passed the bill on Tuesday, meaning the new legislation would now be passed on to the state governor for approval and to take effect.
And the Marjorie Stonemann Douglas Public Safety Act, named after the high school in Parkland, Florida, which on February 14 saw a former student's gunbattle that killed 17 people, including 14 students, passed by 67 votes to 50 in the state legislature .
But Republican Gov. Rick Scott has already voiced opposition to President Donald Trump's proposal to allow teachers to carry a firearm and train them to use it. He has not yet announced whether he will reverse his party's will and veto the new legislation.
Donald Trum has repeatedly expressed his conviction that arming a number of teachers will allow the school firefighters to respond and act as a deterrent to them, but this proposal is highly controversial and is categorically rejected by a section of the educational corps.
After meeting survivors of the Parkland High School massacre, Trump said he did not call for the arming of all professors, but some of them were selected to deter similar attacks.
