In an unprecedented precedent, British Prime Minister Theresa May appeared veiled in the annual "Masjid al-Masjid" event, held every year in Britain since 2015, to promote interfaith dialogue.
The Muslim Council of Britain, the organizer of the event, has republished pictures of Mai on Twitter, which published a positive account of Islam in London and delivered a speech at the Medinhead mosque in the southeastern province of Barkshire.
Mai described her visit to the mosque as "a valuable opportunity to learn about Islam and to affirm that it is the religion of peace."
According to Russia Today, a number of prominent British politicians, including London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Labor Party Chairman Jeremy Corbin, also participated in the "Zer Masjedi" event.
As part of the event, more than 200 mosques across Britain opened their doors to followers of other faiths in the country, enabling them to familiarize themselves with the rituals of Muslims and to identify their mosques.
The Secretary-General of the Council of British Muslims, Harun Khan, said in a commentary on the event that this year it had opened the largest number of mosques for its doors in front of the public in Britain, under the slogan "Open Doors, Open Mosques, Open Communities."
The event, organized by the Muslim Council of Britain, is held for the fourth year in a row.
